An intercity passenger coach traveling through northeastern Brazil met with a tragic accident, resulting in 15 passengers fatally injured, according to local authorities.

Details of the Accident

The vehicle was carrying about 30 people when it veered off and collided with a sand embankment, causing it to overturn. How many injured individuals taken to local medical facilities is not yet confirmed.

The trip originated in the region of the state of Bahia and ended tragically in Saloá, located in the adjacent state of Pernambuco state.

Sequence of Events

Preliminary information suggest that the bus operator lost command of the bus, entering the opposite lane and striking boulders on the roadside. After that, the driver got back into the proper lane but then collided with a sandbank, causing the bus to flip over.

The cause behind the crash is presently being looked into. The operator suffered light wounds and tested negative for alcohol consumption.

Response and Assistance

The governor expressed that the administration is providing assistance for the rescue operation and victim identification. They remarked, "Our team is closely monitoring the situation and sincerely regret the fatalities, the harm and the pain of all the affected families."
