A Pair of Detentions in the Aftermath of London Heathrow ‘Pepper Spray’ Attack

The assault resulted in the temporary closure of the CTA tunnel and the Terminal 3 car park.

An additional two individuals have been arrested related to a robbery at London's Heathrow Airport where 21 people sustained injuries by what is thought to be an irritant spray, according to law enforcement.

A man, 24, was taken into custody in the Lambeth area on suspicion of theft and assault and a woman, 23 was detained for suspected conspiracy to commit robbery. Both individuals remain in custody, the force said.

These detentions come after a probe into an assault at the multi-storey car park at Heathrow's Terminal 3 this past Sunday. Prior to the incident, a pair of female travelers had stolen from them their suitcases after getting out of a car park lift.

A toddler aged three was among the those hurt during the incident. Five people went to hospital for medical care and were later discharged.

Police detained a 31-year-old man on suspicion of robbery and assault close to the location. He has since been released under investigation as the investigation proceeds.

Police were called at about 8:10 in the morning GMT after reports came in regarding a number of individuals injured by a noxious substance thought to be an irritant spray.

The assault - which police said was a standalone incident and not being treated as terrorism - caused train delays and the temporary shutdown of the main airport tunnel and the T3 car park for a short time.
